5" Sony Xperia Z Smartphone- Review

The Sony Xperia Z smartphone gives you everything and protects every bit of it. Its relatively smooth and will let you play at work and work at play with its absolutely mind blowing experience. I just got my hands on this closed device and am not so sure what I think of it.

Before starting the review, I literally starred at the price tag for quite sometime. 40,000 RUPEES it says?? Really?? That is close to 13gms of Gold. This places the Xperia Z in the league of iPhone5, HTC OneX and probably the much awaited Samsung Note 3. Is this really worth? Lets take a look.

ON THE FACE  OF IT

I used the Xperia Z for 2 days and the viewing angles are just great with the screen giving me a 443 ppi. It fits well in the hand, feels premium and is light and broad.

It is powered by a powerful Qualcomm 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Processor with 2 GB RAM. The screen sums up to a 5 inch capacitive, HD touch-screen. It sports NFC, Bluetooth, 3G, LTE, 3.5mm jack and the basic everything. To use this phone you would need a Micro-Sim. You get covered ports for water proofing and hardware for improved connectivity and network reception.

With a size that fits the palm, Sony has tried to innovate more than just the features. Any smartphone has only a couple of Main specifications that make their USPs, namely the Screen Display, Sound, Speed and Performance. Sony has played their better cards here, except for the price.

LOOKS

XE gets the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 from Brand Sony. If you like the brand name, it would get easier for you to ignore a few drawbacks.

From the photos, you can see how the new device looks. The glass finish really makes the device look premium but also becomes a finger-print magnet. There is much blank areas on the  back of the phone with only the Xperia branding. It tries to copy Apple but not close enough.

SCREEN

The screen attracts glare thanks to the type of glass that is used on it. However, thanks to the high pixel density(~443 ppi) for the 5-inch screen, you do tend to get picture clarity better than most competitive phone.

Even if there is no light directly into the screen, you can practically see the face of the person in it.

There is no lag in moving from one screen to the other on an empty phone but you will notice mili-seconds of time lag when you fill this up with HD apps, games and multimedia.

MY TAKE
Though the specs look impressive, the looks don't. Its looks like a simple water proof slim White box. Though the Xperia series started off well with an elegant Arc and Play, its been transformed into a plethora of plastic looking gadgets.

There are complains on the consumer forum about the Xperia Z not responding and restarts once a month. Do share your feedback/experience if you are using this gadget from Sony.
