OnePlus 5/5T & OnePlus 6/6T will get Fnatic Mode, RAM boost, and more

The lead up to when a smartphone gets released (and even on its launch day), there tends to be a lot of emphasis on the design and build materials of the device. Some will focus on internal hardware specs but both press renders and CAD renders are quite popular and get many discussions happening within the community. It’s not until the smartphone is announced and released that we get to see some of the new software features that go into these new devices. Sometimes these new features to exclusive to new hardware but the OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 6/6T will be getting the company’s new Fnatic Mode, RAM Boost, and more.

Sometimes these feature restrictions are actually limited by the hardware of a device, but in most cases, an OEM will use it to sell their new smartphone. It is easier to sell a new smartphone if you promise that some brand new hyped feature is only available on the new device. Some OEMs will backport these new features to older smartphones (we see this a lot from Samsung, Google, and Xiaomi) and that is what OnePlus is doing with the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, and OnePlus 6T.

With the launch of the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, the company announced a number of new software features for its Android ROM, OxygenOS. We recently told you that the company’s 2017 and 2018 smartphones will be getting Zen Mode and the new screen recording feature, but that was all that was made available to the public at that time. Today, the company has announced all of the new features that will be backported to those 4 smartphones. This includes the following:

  • Fnatic Mode – Performance and network boost for playing games
  • Zen Mode –  Disable all distractions for 20 minutes
  • Screen Recorder – Record the screen with internal sound included
  • Quick Reply in Landscape – Reply to messages in landscape without blocking the whole screen
  • DC Dimming – Alternative method to adjust the screen brightness by changing the circuit power of the screen
  • RAM Boost – Increase RAM utilization according to your usage
  • Android Q Update – The OnePlus 5/5T will also get the Android Q Beta

We were not told anything about when we should expect any of these features to make its way to these older smartphones. We are likely to see most of this list included in an OxygenOS update that rolls out sometime this year.
