IDC has published a report on Worldwide personal storage market. Personal storage, which accounted for over 98% of the market shipments, continued to experience decline in the second quarter of 2015. Entry-level storage shipment remained flat during the quarter, and the segment has not been able to gain market share in the past two years. Overall, though the total Shipments have declined by 9.7% year over year, the share of Hard Disk Drives has grown. Here are the details of the report followed by a few notable pointers.
Notable Pointers:
- Worldwide, in the second quarter of 2015 (2Q15), there were 15.1 million units of personal storage shipped
- The Shipment values declined along with unit shipments, down -16.1% from a year ago to $1.2 billion
- In mature markets, the competition from cloud offerings and shift of media consumption preferences are negatively impacting demand for personal storage space
- This makes the shift to developing markets more important
- In Q1 2015, HDD vendors had a 67.33% share in the total personal storage market. In Q2 2015, the share grew to 67.64%.
